See, that argument might hold a lot of swing with me if it weren't for one thing - Naxxramas.

In Naxx, each of the encounters was designed for up to eight tanks! When it came to rehash the dungeon, each of them was redesigned, successfully, to take account of the reduction in numbers, we still had encounters that scaled well between 10 and 25-man. Sure, there were a couple of encounters that needed fewer than three in 25, but they were the exception rather than the rule. Obsidian Sanctum in three-drake mode needed three or four (we took four) tanks.

This is what's missing in the more recent encounters. It's scaling by-the-numbers, just multiplying boss health and damage by a factor, and it's lazy. There's proof that so many encounters could be so much better if they'd been scaled up with a bit more imagination. At the moment we take three of our four tanks and of those three, one spends most of the night in DPS spec / gear. That's not pleasing anyone.

Blizz made it so 10man guilds could take shots at every boss so encounters had to be designed with that in mind. That translates to 2 tanks mostly for the 25man versions. Not every boss is going to need additional adds to tank, which would hurt the 10man versions and unless players were comfortable as both DPS or tank and carried those sets it would hard to swap in tanks only for those encounters that need an extra or two.

Agreed - Alar was a lot of fun for 4 tanks.

Blood Queen is the worst so far in Icecrown - the OT only needs to stand there (at least you might have to move with the Marrowgar MT). Any fight where the OT can disconnect without affecting the outcome is just poor design.

I just hate seeing ppl pulling subpar numbers in good gear and when I jump on my DK alt I can consistently pull almost 2.9k in mix of ilvl200 and greens.

I think its the culture. To be a tank/healer you have to know what ur doing, check stat weights, etc. Most DPS just push buttons. Thats why those of us who have DPS alts do much better...because we hold ourselves to higher standards. Groups would never let a tank/healer get dragged thru because it would severely cripple the group. I refuse to carry DPS for the same reason regardless of whether we have others that can make up the difference.

Most dps can survive trash if tank OR heal is angry. If they team up, there are only few who will survive. Giving out those obivious lessons is fun! Giving them out early results in a much smoother run.

I like to think I know how to play, mainly because I research rotations, strategies, and proper gearing on each of my toons. So when I'm healing and I saw a dps DK with all 71pts in Frost I immediately tried to suggest that they go to one of the DK websites to look up a proper spec. He says he'll switch his spec because he's normally blood and unsurprisingly has an all 71pt blood spec which he insists gives more dps than he's ever seen (supposedly he copied it from a high dps DK he saw). On top of that hte retadin is only doing about 1k dps so I simply stopped healing him. I reasoned that we were pretty much 4 manning it anyways and I didnt want to keep wasting mana on the obvious noob who gets cleaved in front of the boss, stands in fire and can't even break even by pulling appropriate dps numbers. So he of course dies at the boss before Skadi in heroic UP and I refuse to heal him as he could have run back while the tank was afk. Next thing I know they kick me from group.

Note to self: when all the dps suck and they vote to kick you, hope that your random dungeon debuff has worn off.
